Introduction to Cooperative Care
Essential and practical skills (Live, online class, via Zoom)
Designed to provide humans and their dogs with the knowledge and skills to create a cooperative and positive care experience for their dogs, at home and at the vet. Learn techniques and strategies to promote trust, reduce fear, and build a solid foundation for cooperative care, like nail trimming, teeth brushing, and grooming. Develop a personal plan and work at your pup’s pace, with coaching and problem solving tips from the instructor. By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge necessary to continue building your skills and your pup’s confidence.
Before your first session, your instructor will send you log-in information and tips on how to prepare for the class.
- Week 1: Body language, body handling, and preparing for vet visits
- Week 2: Stationing, opting in and opting out
- Week 3: Introducing tools
- Week 4: Building confidence with the use of husbandry tools
- Week 5: Build on the previous week, solve challenges in real time, discuss options moving forward
Age range: 6 months and older
Prerequisites: None, but it would be helpful to have a “relax on a mat” behavior
Class length: 5 consecutive weeks (not including holidays). 60 minutes each. Make-up classes are not possible.
