Vaccine Requirements

Puppy Classes

Puppies may start as early as 7-8 weeks of age, if the following requirements are met:

      • Be up-to-date with the required vaccinations for their age.
      • Have received at least the first set of DHPP vaccines (at least 7 days prior to their first class), usually given between 6-8 weeks of age.
      • Comply with state law for the rabies vaccine.
        • In Maryland, the rabies vaccine is required for puppies by 4 months of age; and then one year later, with a booster, dependent on the type given.

Recommended:

      • The Bordetella vaccine is recommended but not required.
      • Because socialization is so important and time-sensitive, we strongly recommend that you start puppy classes before your puppy has completed the full series of puppy vaccines.
      • For more information, please refer to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s position statement on puppy socialization.
