Vaccine Requirements
Puppy Classes
Puppies may start as early as 7-8 weeks of age, if the following requirements are met:
-
-
- Be up-to-date with the required vaccinations for their age.
- Have received at least the first set of DHPP vaccines (at least 7 days prior to their first class), usually given between 6-8 weeks of age.
- Comply with state law for the rabies vaccine.
- In Maryland, the rabies vaccine is required for puppies by 4 months of age; and then one year later, with a booster, dependent on the type given.
-
Recommended:
-
-
- The Bordetella vaccine is recommended but not required.
- Because socialization is so important and time-sensitive, we strongly recommend that you start puppy classes before your puppy has completed the full series of puppy vaccines.
- For more information, please refer to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s position statement on puppy socialization.
